Surveying of Iki/Ashibe Inclined Shaft to be carried out – Newsletter from the field September issue

■Stay north-northeast! Iki/Ashibe Slanted Shaft Surveying carried out for the installation of the tunnel entrance.

Surveys were conducted on August 14th and 15th to prepare for the installation of a tunnel entrance at the planned site of the Ashibe slope shaft in Iki. Using the prefectural road that runs east-west next to the site as a starting point, we collected data at each point on the site using surveying equipment such as a transit. They also collected data from the sea side and from the wharf, and tentatively determined the location of the mine entrance and the direction and route of the working mine from there. Technicians collected data while being cheered by a chorus of cicadas in the heat, which was hotter than usual.

The main shaft of the Japan-Korea Tunnel heads north along the east coast of the island, curves westward around the northern end, and heads toward Tsushima, but it is decided at what point the working shaft will intersect with the main shaft. This becomes important survey data. This working pit will reach 331 meters below the seabed, the deepest point in the project, and will collect water from the springs between Iki and Tsushima.

The mine entrance point was tentatively determined and was determined to proceed 1,400 meters north-northeast. After a review meeting was held among the relevant parties, the sound of construction work finally began to be heard in Iki.
