Japan-Korea Tunnel Promotion Association Tottori 4th Anniversary Event Held

The "Tottori Prefectural Council for the Promotion of the Japan-Korea Tunnel 4th Anniversary Celebration" (organized by the Tottori Prefectural Council for the Promotion of the Japan-Korea Tunnel), commemorating the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and SouthKorea, was held on May 24th.

The " Tottori Prefectural Council for the Promotion of the Japan-Korea Tunnel 4th Anniversary Meeting," commemorating the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, was held on the afternoon of the 24th at the Tottori City Cultural Hall Grand Hall in Tottori City. Approximately 400 people, including local prefectural assembly members, city council members, town council members, business executives, and experts, participated.

In the commemorative lecture, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (Ambassador to Ukraine and Syria), Kichijiro Amae, and Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Chairman of the Sekai Nippo , spoke about the role and importance of the Japan-Korea Tunnel for peace and prosperity in Asia

Speaking on the theme of "East Asian Affairs and the Japan-Korea Tunnel," Mr. Amae stated, "The ancient Japanese archipelago and the Korean Peninsulahad deep ties, as evidenced by the Silla-derived immigrant culture in the Hokuriku, Shiga, and Kyoto regions, the clusters of ancient burial mounds, the immigrant settlements in Kamitsukeno (Gunma), and the establishment of Koma and Silla districts in Musashi Province.The leaders of Japan and South Korea should understand each other's history and hold talks as soon as possible." He then emphasizedof the Japan-Korea tunnel, saying, "If Japan and South Korea cooperate, their combined GDP (Gross Domestic Product) will reach $6 trillion. If the Japan-Korea tunnel is completed, human andmaterial exchanges will expand dramatically, bringing tremendous political and economic benefits."

Furthermore, on the theme of "The Japan Sea Rim Era and Regional Revitalization," Chairman Kinoshita said, "Since the Jomon and Yayoi periods in Japan, the Japan Sea Rim has seen movement across and across the country, economic and cultural exchange, and a relationship of coexistence and mutual prosperity. Currently, relations between Japan and South Korea and Japan and China are stagnant, but both sides should be future-oriented and make efforts. The Northeast Asian region will become one of the world's three major economic zones, along with North America and the EU. The Japan-Korea Tunnel will be the trump card in achieving this." He also emphasized that Tottori Prefecture will play a strong driving role in the Northeast Asia Regional Municipalities Union, which is made up of local governments from six countries: Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China, Russia, and Mongolia.

Furthermore, he stated that in order to deepen genuine exchanges with East Asia, it is essential for regionalrevitalization to develop unique technologies, products, and resources in local areas, to cultivate the human resources needed for this purpose, andto establish and promote cultural and artistic policies that appeal to the worldwith the characteristics of those areas.

The conference concluded with resolutions such as, " Let's aim to realize an international highway that transcends ethnic, racial, and national barriers in order to achieve lasting peace, which is humanity's long-cherished wish!" and "Let's urge the government to start construction of the Japan-Korea tunnel as soon as possible and promote regional revitalization through the Japan Sea New Land Axis concept!"
