Former Ambassador Amae: "People-to-people and material exchanges are expanding"

Chairman Kinoshita: "Appeal to the characteristics of the region"

4th Anniversary Conference for the Promotion of the Japan-Korea Tunnel in Tottori" (sponsored by the Tottori Prefectural Council for the Promotion of the Japan-Korea Tunnel), which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, was held on the afternoon of the 24th at the Tottori City Cultural Hall Grand Hall in Tottori City, with 400 people in attendance, including local prefectural assembly members, city assembly members, town assembly members, business executives, and experts.

In the commemorative lecture, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (to Ukraine and Syria) spoke about the role and importance of the Japan-Korea Tunnel for peace and prosperity in Asia

Speaking on the topic of "The Situation in East Asia and the Japan-Korea Tunnel," Amae said, " The ancient Japanese archipelago and the Korean Peninsula had a deep relationship, as evidenced by the Silla-related immigrant culture and ancient tombs in Hokuriku, Shiga, and Kyoto, the immigrant settlements in Kamitsugano (Gunma), and the establishment of Koryo and Silla counties in Musashi Province. The leaders of Japan and Korea should meet soon with an understanding of each other's country's history." He then emphasized the significance of the Japan-Korea tunnel, saying, "If Japan and Korea cooperate, their combined GDP ( gross domestic product) will be $6 trillion. If the Japan-Korea Tunnel is completed, human and material exchanges will expand dramatically, bringing great political and economic benefits."

Furthermore, on the theme of "The Japan Sea Rim Era and Regional Revitalization," Chairman Kinoshita said, "Since the Jomon and Yayoi periods in Japan, the Japan Sea Rim has seen movement across and across the country, economic and cultural exchange, and a relationship of coexistence and mutual prosperity. Currently, relations between Japan and South Korea and Japan and China are stagnant, but both sides should be future-oriented and make efforts. The Northeast Asian region will become one of the world's three major economic zones, along with North America and the EU. The Japan-Korea Tunnel will be the trump card in achieving this." He also emphasized that Tottori Prefecture will play a strong driving role in the Northeast Asia Regional Municipalities Union, which is made up of local governments from six countries: Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China, Russia, and Mongolia.

Furthermore, he said that in order to deepen full-scale exchanges with East Asia, the key revitalization is to develop unique local technologies, products, and resources, to develop the human resources needed to do so, and establish and promote cultural and artistic policies that will showcase the unique characteristics of each region to the world .

The conference concluded with resolutions such as, "Let's aim to build an international highway that transcends ethnic, racial, and national barriers in "Let's call on the government to start construction of the Japan-Korea Tunnel as soon as possible and promote regional revitalization through the Japan Sea New National Axis Initiative!"
