A collection of policy proposals by the Kyushu Liaison Council for the Realization of the Japan-Korea Tunnel, looking ahead to Kyushu 10 years from now.

If an undersea tunnel connecting Karatsu in Saga Prefecture and Busan in South Korea is completed, "Kyushu's exchange population will more than double from the current level," and "a new path to prosperity that is not dependent on the Tokyo metropolitan area will be realized," says Professor Kenichi Tsukahara of Kyushu University.

 

Ishii Yukitaka, former president of JR Kyushu, has called for Saga Airport to be made into a hub airport and for it to be linked to the tunnel, while Heo Jae-wan, professor emeritus at Chung-Ang University, compares the construction of the tunnel to the Anglo-French Tunnel and points out that its construction could be an important signal to ease political tensions between Japan and South Korea.
